First class of Texas Tech vet school in Amarillo graduates Sunday, Gov. Abbott speaking

The inaugural class of the Texas Tech vet school graduates Sunday.

The Texas Tech University School Of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo officially opened in the fall of 2021.

There were 64 students at the time.

A ribbon cutting for the $90 million facility was held in April 2022.

It's one of only two vet schools in Texas and the first in more than a century. The other one at Texas A&M in College Station opened in 1916.

Governor Greg Abbott, who spoke at the ribbon cutting, will deliver remarks during the inaugural graduation.

The graduation starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Amarillo Civic Center. The governor is expected to speak at Noon.
