West Plains High School names David Castellon as new girls' basketball coach

West Plains High School has appointed David Castellon as the new head coach of the girls' basketball program.

Castellon, a native of Panhandle, Texas, brings over a decade of coaching experience and a proven track record of success in multiple sports.

Castellon began his career in Spearman and later took on leadership roles in Spur, Texas. From 2017 to 2022, he served as the head girls' basketball coach, head girls and boys cross country coach, and head girls' track coach at Spur High School.

During his tenure, he led his teams to notable achievements, including a regional championship and a third-place state finish in cross country in 2017, followed by a second-place finish in 2021. Spur's track team also claimed back-to-back district and area championships in 2021 and 2022.

On the basketball court, Castellon compiled an impressive head coaching record of 115-53, highlighted by an undefeated district championship and multiple playoff victories. His reputation as a program builder and motivator is well-regarded among peers and student-athletes.

Most recently, Castellon played a key role in establishing the athletic identity at West Plains High School during its formative years, helping to lay a strong foundation for a dynamic and competitive athletic program.
