WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WJAR) — A stranger helped save a toddler in Rhode Island on Tuesday.
Police said the child crawled through an open window in Woonsocket and onto a roof.Video was captured by a friend of the man who jumped into action to help.
The Good Samaritan, who wanted to remain anonymous, can be seen scaling up the side of the shingles and onto a balcony where the toddler was. He took the child in his arms and then banged on the window.
Woonsocket police said the 2-year-old's mother allegedly left the window open overnight because it was hot, and it was close to the child's bed.
WJAR spoke to a woman who said she was driving her kids to school and called 911.
The baby was really coming to the edge and going back, and you could see that the window was open," Michelle Higgins said. "And the gentleman in the street was trying to tell the baby, 'Go back, go back, go back,' and then the man just jumped into action. I don't know how he got up the side of the building. My son keeps saying, 'He has to be Spider-Man.'"
The child was okay. The Department of Children, Youth and Families was notified about the incident.
WJAR spoke briefly with the child's mother, but she didn't want to comment.
The woman told police she was woken up by her roommate, who also spotted the child on the roof when he was outside of the building.
