Maroon 5 cancels North Carolina shows, cites House Bill 2

LOS ANGELES (WLOS) - California-based Maroon 5 announced they are canceling their shows in North Carolina over the so-called "bathroom bill."

The band released a statement on Friday saying they feel as though "everyone should be treated equally."

"We have announced that we will be canceling our upcoming shows in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina because of the recent passage of the HB2 legislation. This was a difficult decision for us to make as a band. We don't want to penalize our fans in North Carolina by not performing for them, but in the end it comes down to what we feel is morally right as we feel everyone should be treated equally."

Customers who already purchased tickets will receive refunds. The band had scheduled a show on Sept. 11 in Charlotte at the Time Warner Cable Arena and a Raleigh show on Sept. 12.

Tickets purchased online and by phone will be automatically refunded.
