RAYNHAM, Mass. (TND) — A 59-year-old Massachusetts man who had a heart attack while he was jogging was reunited with the men and woman who helped save him.
Authorities in Raynham saidJohn Hogan experienced the medical incident on March 10. On Saturday, he was pleased to meet the first responders, as well as two good Samaritans, who gave him a second chance at life.
It's amazing that people have come together to do something for someone that they don't know personally, and that's the magic of just being a good person and doing the right thing," Hogan said in a news release.
Photos show Hogan smiling with members of theRaynham Fire and Police Departments and good Samaritans Danielle Vlachos and Kelsi Korzeniowski.
The news release noted first responders reported to a call about a man, later identified as Hogan, who was found unconscious in the road. At first, said authorities, Hogan did not have a pulse and paramedics used a defibrillator to try to revive him.
Bystanders Vlachos and Korzeniowski administered CPR, while a third bystander called 911," according to the release. "When first responders arrived they continued CPR and provided critical medical care."
Hogan eventually regained his pulse in an ambulance on the way to an area hospital. After recovering, he contacted the fire department, saying he wanted to meet the people who helped save his life so he could thank them.
Hogan did just that on Saturday, with the men and women receiving praise from him and his family, as well as their respective departments.
Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita issued letters of commendation to the three bystanders, along with the first responders.
Those who received letters of commendation include:
We were very happy to hear from Mr. Hogan and are glad that he is doing better,” LaCivita said. “Everyone involved, from the bystanders to our paramedics, contributed to saving his life and it’s a true testament to the value of knowing how to administer CPR.
