House catches on fire after tree falls on power line

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A house in Amarillo caught fire after a tree fell on a power line.

The fire in the 5800 block of Middleboro Drive started around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

When firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring out of the home. They found heavy fire in the attic. Downed power lines were also arcing on the roof.

The fire was finally under control at about 3:20 p.m.

Damage is estimated at $160,000.

The Amarillo Fire Department urges residents to keep a close eye on trees around power lines and to call utility providers if limbs pose a hazard. Preventative trimming can reduce the risk of electrical fires.
