CINCINNATI (WKRC) - It's official, Noah Lyles is the world's fastest man.

After months of talking the talk, Lyles won the men's 100-meter final on Sunday in Paris. He finished the race with a time of 9.79784. Not only was that a personal best, but it helped him win the race by just five-thousandths of a second, officially securing him his first-ever Olympic gold medal.

Jamaica's Kishane Thompson finished in second place, just narrowly losing to Lyles. The two had to wait nearly 30 seconds after the finish to figure out who had won the race.

Lyles said he originally thought he had given away the win by dipping at the line too soon. So, he went up to Thompson and said, "Bro, I think you got that one."

America's Fred Kerley came in third with a time of 9.81.

This race became the closest 1-2 finish in the 100 since at least Moscow in 1980, but it could be the closest ever as other races didn't go down into the thousandths of a second back in the day.

Lyles also became the first American to win the race since Justin Gatlin in 2004.

"America, I told you I got this!" yelled Lyles into the camera.
