Personal information of Texas Tech HSC patients stolen during 'cybersecurity event'

The personal information of some Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center patients was stolen during a "cybersecurity event.'

According to Texas Tech, "certain files and folders" on the network were accessed or removed between Sept. 17-29.

The stolen information may include name, date of birth, address, driver’s license number, government-issued identification number, financial account information, health insurance information and medical information, including medical records numbers, billing/claims data and diagnosis and treatment information.

The HSC's in Amarillo and El Paso are in the process of notifying patients whose information may be involved in this incident.

Complimentary credit monitoring services will be provided.

"To help prevent a recurrence, the HSCs are reviewing existing security policies and procedures as part of the investigation and are implementing additional safeguards to enhance system protection and monitoring," said Texas Tech.
