UTAH (TND) — U.S. government officials confirmed a high-altitude balloon over the Western U.S. does not pose a threat.
North American Aerospace Defense Command stated the "small balloon" was detected at an altitude between43,000 to 45,000 feet.
NORAD fighters intercepted the balloon over Utah Friday.
It was determined that the balloon was "not maneuverable" and "did not present a threat to national security."
Federal Aviation Administration assisted in the investigation and determined the balloon didn't pose a hazard to flight safety.
Officials didn't release the origin of the balloon and its purpose.
NORAD is working closely working with the FAA to ensure flight safety, according to the statement provided to The National Desk.
