AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Former Canadian High and West Texas A&M University quarterback Ben Arbuckle has been appointed as the new offensive coordinator at the University of Oklahoma, with a mission to enhance the Sooners' offensive performance. Arbuckle has signed a three-year contract with OU.
Arbuckle's coaching journey began as an unpaid assistant at Houston Baptist under offensive coordinator Zach Kittley. He later served as the quarterback coach and offensive coordinator at Seminole High School. Reuniting with Kittley at Western Kentucky, Arbuckle took over as offensive coordinator when Kittley moved to Texas Tech. Utilizing the Air Raid offense, Arbuckle achieved impressive results.
His success at Western Kentucky led to his hiring as the offensive coordinator at Washington State, where he spent the past two seasons. The Cougars concluded this season with an 8-4 record, including a notable 21-point victory over Texas Tech, where Arbuckle outperformed his mentor, Kittley.
In a related development, just hours after Arbuckle's appointment, Kittley was named the head coach at Florida Atlantic. This leaves Texas Tech in search of two top coordinators following the recent firing of defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter.
