Ali Riley on Sydney Leroux: 'You're the closest I have to a sister'

On the most recent episode of BFFR with Sydney Leroux and Ali Riley, the hosts talk about the importance of female friendships and share with listeners the story of how their friendship came to be.

“We were in Sweden and I came up to watch Sweden take on the United States,” Ali explained. “And your mom was there and she was like ‘Ali, it’s so good to see you!’ And she had baby Cassius. And she just put him in my arms, and he was like drooling on me and tugging my hair and I had never seen a more precious baby.”

The two went on to reminisce that their paths crossed in college, and while playing together previously in Orlando, Florida. They even managed to maintain their friendship when Ali left Orlando, even though Sydney admits that she is not great at keeping in touch.

“You and I somehow, despite all odds, stayed connected,” Ali shared. “And then when you told me that you were getting close to a trade, that was an amazing day.”

Sydney joined Ali at their current NWSL team, Angel City FC in the summer of 2022.

“We’ve just gone through so much together,” Sydney added. “You’re family to me.”
